about

AYA Records presents Humazapas’ 'Sara Tipi.'

‘Sara Tipi’ is the second single from Humazapas' album 'Sara Mama.'

The ‘Sara Tipi’ (corn harvest) feast is here. This song is in the San Juanito musical genre.

The song ‘Sara Tipi’ is for the Sara Mama (mother corn) harvest ritual. The signs of the chakra (sown field) are embodied in this song, in the story about a person who turns into a corn worm.

The musical video for ‘Sara Tipi’ was directed by Luis Bonilla Simba, an audiovisual producer for ANTA Records and a member of Humazapas. This video tries to transmit an idea of everyday life in the community and humans’ relationship with nature and the world of the deities. The musical video shows the harvest of the sacred corn grain, “Sara Mama,” in a field located in the foothills of the snow-capped mountain “Mama Cotacachi.”

lyrics

Sara Tipi (Corn harvest)
Kichwa > English

Patajurugumi jachungu tukuna kashka nin, chayka patajuruguka
Once upon a time a corn worm was getting married, so the worm
gindiguma tigrashka, gindiguman tigrashaka kashka nin, pero kusa tiuka gindi pacha
became a human because her husband was a real person.
payka kutin patajurugulla pero gindiguma tigrarina kashka nin.
She was a corn worm but she became a human
Chayka patajuruguka tukuy punlla rri kashka nin chagraguman,
So the corn worm went to the cornfield every day
chuglluguta apangapa, chugllutandaguta ninnada rrurrakashka nin tukuy punlla
To fetch corn on the cob and every day she cooked humitas
Kusa tiuman trabajangapa rrikpika, kukabichishpa kachakashka nin,
And when her husband went to work, she sent him humitas
chugkllutandataka tukuy punlla, ña madrugadutaka ña, ashta chay chugllutanda,
Every day she made humitas at the crack of dawn
ashta ñutu, ñutuguta ashta kutashkaguta shina chungllutanda kashka nin, shina
all ground up and
kukabichispa kacha kashka nin, kusa tiuman.
she sent them to her husband
Chayta suegra mamaka nishkanin
So one day her mother-in-law said to her:
paniku tukuy punllamari chugllutandagutaka kachangui
- daughter-in-law, every day you send humitas
chagragutaka tukurijungamari chuglluguka nishkanin panikutaka,
-You must be running out of sweetcorn
chayka, chay panikuka nishkanin, na mama tiagrami mama nishkanin.
So the daughter-in-law said: no, momma-in-law, I’ve still got some
Shina, chayka, kutin shuk viaje shinallata rrishkanin chuglluman,
So she went back to the cornfield
madrugadutaka rrikashkanin ña chay chuglluman,
Accustomed to going for sweetcorn at dawn
ña punllakaman ña azawan llamujuna kashkanin,
and in the morning she returned with her parcel
chay kutin shuk punllaka rrishkanin shinallata chuglluman rrikpika,
The next day she went to the cornfield again
suegra mamaka katishpa rrishkanin.
And her mother-in-law followed behind
Shunku ashata pinarishpa chuglluka tukurijungamayashpa kunangamanmayashpami
The mother-in-law was sad and worried because she thought the sweetcorn was running out
rrishkanin chagrata muyungapa
She went to see the cornfield
Chuglluta apashpandimi rrijushkanin yarin suedra mamaka
To also fetch a little sweetcorn
Chayka, chagrama yaykushpaka, pipash na rrikurishkachu nin
Then, when she entered the cornfield they say she didn’t see a thing
She didn’t see her daughter-in-law. And she said: every day she makes humitas
ñuka churimanga kukabita kachangapa
To send food to my son
Pero kaypika nima apashka mana rrikurin, mayma imashamandiyari nishpa,
But here it doesn’t look like they’ve harvested, what’s going on?
Shina yuyashka purijushka nin chagrapika.
She thought about this as she walked around the cornfield.
Chagrapi shuk chugllu ashagu paskarin kashka nin,
When she saw a corn cob that was half open
chayka patajuruguka mikujushkanin chugllutaka, chyaka suegra mamaka nishka,
and saw that there was a worm eating the corn, and the mother-in-law said
chay patajuruta japishpa, juru mapa, ñuka chuglluguta mikujungui nishpaka,
as she grabbed the worm: Dirty worm, you’re eating my corn.
Chay chaupishpa, chaupishpa wañuchiguanka, ayaya, ayayay, panikumari kani,
After that she cut the worm in half and killed it.
ayayay, panikumari kani, nishpa kaparishka nin,
That hurts, the worm shouted, and said: I’m your daughter-in-law.
chaipi manllarishkanin suedra mama
And the mother-in-law was scared when she heard this
Chaypimi ña tukurushkanin, ña na, como wañuchishka,
That’s where it ended, when she killed the worm
ña na chugllutandata rrashkachu nin.
no more humitas were made
Ña wañuchishkamanda, chaygukamanllami
Because the worm was killed, this is where the story ends.

Sara Tipi (Cosecha del maíz)
Kichwa > Español

Patajurugumi jachungu tukuna kashka nin, chayka patajuruguka
Chayka patajuruguka tukuy punlla rri kashka nin chagraguman,
chuglluguta apangapa, chugllutandaguta ninnada rrurrakashka nin tukuy punlla
Kusa tiuman trabajangapa rrikpika, kukabichishpa kachakashka nin,
kukabichispa kacha kashka nin, kusa tiuman.
mandaba a su esposo
Chayta suegra mamaka nishkanin
Entonces un día su suegra le dijo:
paniku tukuy punllamari chugllutandagutaka kachangui
- nuera, todos los días mandas humitas
chagragutaka tukurijungamari chuglluguka nishkanin panikutaka,
-Seguro se están terminando los choclos
chayka, chay panikuka nishkanin, na mama tiagrami mama nishkanin.
Shina, chayka, kutin shuk viaje shinallata rrishkanin chuglluman,
chay kutin shuk punllaka rrishkanin shinallata chuglluman rrikpika,
Otro día fue nuevamente al maizal
suegra mamaka katishpa rrishkanin.
Y su suegra fue detrás de ella
Shunku ashata pinarishpa chuglluka tukurijungamayashpa kunangamanmayashpami
rrishkanin chagrata muyungapa
Fue a ver el maizal
Chuglluta apashpandimi rrijushkanin yarin suedra mamaka
Shina yuyashka purijushka nin chagrapika.
Pensado en eso caminaba por el maizal.
Chagrapi shuk chugllu ashagu paskarin kashka nin,
chayka patajuruguka mikujushkanin chugllutaka, chyaka suegra mamaka nishka,
chay patajuruta japishpa, juru mapa, ñuka chuglluguta mikujungui nishpaka,
agarrando a la gusana. -Gusana cochina, te estas comiendo mi choclo
Chay chaupishpa, chaupishpa wañuchiguanka, ayaya, ayayay, panikumari kani,
ayayay, panikumari kani, nishpa kaparishka nin,
chaipi manllarishkanin suedra mama
